I would like to be able to use the full 12" available to cut...like for a 12" border. I just attempted and everything outside the dashed border did not cut, so my 12" border was too short! =(

Place the cut on an angle and you can get a full 12" border. Unless your border is really wide, this works for me.

Thanks, but won't work on this border...and I don't want to waste the paper cutting on an angle.

Will it work if your just tell SCAL you are using a 24" mat?

I too would like to be able to cut to the border. I can only use the 6 x 12 mat size and the 6" isn't so much of a problem being only 5.5 but it would be great to do a 12" strip of something so i don't have piece stuff together for my 12" scrapbook pages. I get why the boarder ensures a better cut by not catching the edges of paper that isn't stuck down well enough. Maybe a place where you can set "custom mat size" and "custom boarder width" for those of us who are a bit more adventurous.
I would also like a spot to be able to set up my own mat size. I would like to hack a 12 x 24 mat into a 6 x 24 mat with my exacto knife. Then I would not be so envious of the expressions owners.

JD,
Try setting SCAL to 12 x 24 mat anyway. Some baby bug users on this bug discovered that they can get a longer cut this way. You'll have to figure out which half of the mat it cuts on, but then you have opened up the length. In fact, you should already be able to use a longer mat by either cutting a 24 inch down in width or by making your own mat with a flexible cutting surface from the kitchen department of walmart or the dollar store.

Of course, these suggestions are still important for the wishlist... just trying to increase functionality now where possible.
