small vinyl cuts on baby bug

Hi,

I have the baby bug and am trying to cut vinyl in very small font (maybe 1/2 inch hig). I'm using scal to create and cut it, but when it cuts the letters, they are so small that the vinyl just gets pulled and turned (very messy). I cut vinyl all the time and I usually use 3,3,3 across the board for all my settings. I've tried every other setting possible and no luck.

What I'm wondering is ... AC Moore is having a huge sale on the expressions right now and I'm thinking of upgrading to it. Will the expressions be able to cut this better? Has anyone tried to cut this small with either the baby bug or the expressions?

Thanks

Have you tried a new (or different) blade? I know that I had a blade that looked ok, but even when new didn't cut the lighter papers well, and when I changed the blade I could cut them. I haven't cut vinyl, but I wouldn't think that a different machine would cut differently. (I am also trying to justify buying an E but I haven't managed yet ).

My experience with Vinyl is Small doesn't cut well. It lifts off of its backing and letters especially don't cut and I have a new machine, so I know the blade is still sharp. I have cut 2" letters in a Script font and that size worked well in vinyl.

I am also going to say its the size of the cut not the machine. You could try a new blade but my guess is the size.

I also find sometimes it works better to flip the image and put your paper or whatever with a sticky backing upside on the cricut mat so you cut from the back and not the front of the paper/vinyl etc.

You should try a new blade. The blade that I had that didn't cut well on delicat materials (even when it was new) was the blade that came with my machine. :x
I just tried cutting the snowflakes from doodlecharms at 1" with an old blade and didn't have any problems.

I have been using a 60 degree blade in my regular housing instead of the 45 degree blade that came with my Cricut and everything is cutting better. I use pressure 3 and it cuts the vinyl and not thru the paper. don't know if this might help you or not. I haven't tried very small things.
OK I just cut out a one inch letter and it cut perfectly. Maybe the 60 degree blade is the answer. Wait a minute! I just cut a 1/2 inch letter and it came out perfect.
