I think I need "Inkscape For Dummies"

Post by moosenoops »

Hello All,

OK I'm doing my best but I don't seem to have it down yet. Can someone give me a step by step as to how to create in inkscape and cut in scal. Let me explain what I'm doing so far...

The project is to create the words : "Established 2000" then convert to scal to cut (I would like to save this file in inkscape for future use as the year will change depending on the order).

I open inkscape
I select the Text button and select the text I want to use, I type Established 2000
If I select it and go to 'object to path', then trace bitmap - nothing appears in the preview and in the lower bar it says 'must select an image'

Do I first go and select 'copy bitmap'? How can I go back and edit it later?

All I want to do is type the words, save it and import it to scal for cutting. I have read a lot about inkscape and viewed a lot of tutorials but none seem to describe the basic of what I need to do.

Thanks for any help you can give!

When you are using the text or ttf's when you choose oject to path, that is it. No need to trace bmp. the object to path changes it for you.
Hope this helps :)

Once you go Path/Object to path, you can't edit the text as text anymore. You might want to make a 2nd copy of the text (in the same file) before you convert the other to path, that way you will have the same font/size later for editing. I don't think that will cause any problems in SCAL.
