help! i downloaded the DS software from the provo craft website and upgraded my firmware following the directions. but now my Expression doesn't work, and i've had it less than 3 days.
it turns on but the screen doesn't come up and all of the buttons are non-functional. i tried re-installing the firmware but it didn't help.
suggestions? i've emailed the tech support but i doubt i'll hear from them any time soon...

TECH SUPPORT NOOK - Reset Process
If your machine freezes, experiences power problems, cutting issues, or anything out of the realm of normal Cricut behavior, this reset procedure is a good place to start the troubleshooting process. Nine times out of ten, this will resolve the issue:
- First, turn your machine on with no cartridge loaded. Then you are going to roll all your gray dials (the two on the left and the one on the right) down to their lowest setting.
- Then you will want to grasp the green/gold cylinder blade assembly and use it to pull the entire gray carriage car unit (the one with the Cricut bug on it) along its track to the other side of the machine. Back in the cave where the gray carriage car usually sits there is a red button. Press that button and hold it down for about three seconds. Let go and then move the gray carriage car back into place.
- This next step will sound a bit odd, but many times it can fix your little "bug". You're going to roll all your dials all the way up and all the way down three times--three times for each dial.
- Then you are going to hit the "Cut" button and turn the machine off. Let the machine sit for a few minutes (15-20), load a cartridge, turn it on, and try a practice cut.
If this does not solve your problem, give us a call toll free at 1-877-727-4288 7am to 6pm MST Mon-Fri (make sure you are by your machine) and someone here will walk you through some troubleshooting tips and determine if a replacement machine is needed.

Try returning your machine to the store you purchased it from. Most stores have a 30 day return policy and you have only had it 3 days...or you can contact PC and return the machine to them and they will send you a new one. Even let them try turning it on if there is any questions.
My E went beserk after a firmware update also...couldn't cut mulit-cart file the machine would cut off when I removed a cart. PC replaced it with no problem. I guess some machines are just finicky.

I'll try the manual reset when I get home from work tonight. *fingers crossed* Thanks for the help!
I would have just returned it, but I'm in Fairbanks, AK. Seriously, just getting the machine into my Joann's store was a major process. We're talking multiple weeks of bugging employees, checking shipping logs, and finally convincing the manager that the little Cricut they had in stock was, in fact, not the Expression and no, I didn't want it. I shudder to think what would happen if I went in needing to replace mine already.

I was wondering if you were able to correct the problem and got your E to work?

Here is another set of instructions for resetting your Cricut.
1. Make sure your Cricut is turned off with no cartridge loaded.
2. Turn your Cricut on with no cartridge loaded.
3. Roll the three dials ("speed", "pressure" and "size") on your Cricut down to their lowest setting.
4. Roll the "speed" dial all the way up to it's highest setting, and then roll it down to it's lowest setting. Do this three times.
5. Roll the "pressure" dial all the way up to it's highest setting, and then roll it down to it's lowest setting. Do this three times.
6. Roll the "size" dial all the way up to it's highest setting, and then roll it down to it's lowest setting. Do this three times.
7. Now, press the "Cut" button.
8. Grasp the blade housing and slide out of the way.
9. Press the red button behind it. Hold for 3 seconds.
10. Turn your Cricut off.
11. Let your Cricut set for about 10 seconds.
12. Turn your Cricut on, insert a mat with paper on it and insert any cartridge.
13. Make a cut.

Would love to see an update! I am seriously considering purchasing SCAL, but this is the one thing I am most nervous about!! I still want to be able to use my DS and Gypsy as well since I have several cartridges. But I want to be able to cut my hubby's company logo as well. What to do, what to do! Can anyone help??
Thanks!
