Hi,
A while ago i downloaded a file for a box with handles and i'm not sure how it's supposed to fold together, there is 2 pieces and one doesnt have score lines. I was wondering if anyone has seen this type of box and can help me and tell me how i should put this together, its such a cute box and looks like one from Dunkin Donuts for munchkins (not quite but close to it). Let me try to attach my file and hopefully someone can help me.
Thank you in advance, Jen

Re: help folding a box with handles
Well, my guess is that the fold lines and slit are missing from the smaller piece. Being that it is the same shape as the top of the larger piece, I would think the fold lines and slit would be exactly the same on both pieces.
My guess is that you would slide the right piece up so the the 2 handle pieces were even at the top, then move it over so it overlapped the small tab sticking out of the right side of the left piece and glued it there. Then fold the vertical folds, bringing the right side small tab around and glue it in to the same spot on the left side of the left piece, forming a square and the sides of the box. Bring the bottom flap up (forming the bottom of the box) and the small shapped tab on the bottom of the right piece fits into the slit on the bottom of the left piece. The plainish top flaps (the one with the slit and the one that doesn't have one but should) fold over and the slits slot together and then the handle flaps fold over the top of them, each coming only half way across the top opening and meeting in the middle. then the they connect close with the 2 sideways half circles going into something on the other handle piece that is also missing.
Does that make sense? I've also attached a picture of what I THINK the other pieces should look like.

Re: help folding a box with handles
I think I understand but just in case, can you send me an attachment that I can click on and save with the score lines on both parts? Thank you for showing me but if I have that one that you attached, it will cut the dots and I can put it together easier. Thank you for explaining it to me. I appreciate your time. Jennifer
Re: help folding a box with handles
Jennifer, what version of SCL do you use? The original file you posted is a scut file that would tell me it is SCAL1, I only have SCAL3 and if I help you with the score lines they most probably will not work in SCAL1.
It is always helpful if you indicate which version of SCAL you use when you post as that will get you the correct answer to your questions given the versions have different features and functions.

Re: help folding a box with handles
I do have scal 1, i guess i forgot to mention it. Can you help me with this? If not, thats ok. I appreciate anyone that can maybe send me the file with the dots where i fold. I thought about drawing them but i probably wont get them in the right place and it will be messed up. Thanks. Jennifer
Re: help folding a box with handles
The dot lines for the fold show in outline view in my scal3. have you looked in outline view? They are just faint dots and hard to see on the red fill.
hopefully someone who still has SCAL1 will come along and HELP you

Re: help folding a box with handles
If you change the extension to scut3, you can open the file in SCAL3. I then exported it to Inkscape and tried to tweak it a bit. As an afterthought, I vaguely recalled that SCAL1 cannot cut open-ended paths, so for the score lines, I made them stroke to path. I made two svg versions; one that will hopefully work using SCAL1 and the other to cut using SCAL3 (it cut very well with my Cameo). Unfortunately, I WAS NOT ABLE to cut the SCAL1 version. Can you try it and let me know how it works?

Re: help folding a box with handles
Ok, maybe this box is not for me to fold, i am totally baffled. I tried to go with the directions and i'm confused, I'm the type of person that needs a step by step directions with pictures to guide me. Sorry, and thank you for all your help, i'll keep trying and maybe someone who is better at figuring this out at home, can help me otherwise i dont want to make it stress me out. I tried to match the handles up but i'll keep trying to figure it out.
Thanks again for everyone's help. Jen

Re: help folding a box with handles
I have to tell you, this box has problems. I am a box maker and I hate when boxes are 'iffy' - they should come together perfectly and fit exactly, which this box does NOT. Plus it is still missing some lines and tab inserts. Having said that, it can be cut and it will fold somewhat correctly. Not seeing the original box, so having to guess what it is supposed to be, I cut the file and came up with the following:
Fold vertical folds and glue small tabs to form a square: The bottom needs an addition fold line where the slit is. Fold up the bottom flap and close bottom of box, then fold small tab into the small slit: Turn box over and fold down the flaps with the slits, then slide them together so the slits go into each other:
