Hello,

(SCAL3 3.046 + BC Pro)

I often do print-and-cut (contour cutting) where I make two passes: one for scoring, and one for cutting. Each pass is a layer that I turn off and on.

However, because the score and cut lines occupy different positions, the origin point of the cut starts in a different position based on the layer I'm cutting; resulting in an incorrect cut on the paper.

It's hard to describe, but it's behaving like there's no WYSIWYG option for the PnC mode, instead starting at "origin" for whatever layer I'm cutting instead of keeping the layer positions relative.

How can I get SCAL3 3.046 to do this right?

Sure - the concept is simple, I'll create and attach a file shortly

when using a black cat or silver bullet, Scal will put the reg marks a set distance from the cut lines.

this means they can move if using score lines and then a cutting outline.

one way around this is to put a rectangle around the whole thing, this will force scal to put the reg marks around that so they will stay where they are regardless which layer is sent to cut.

you can hide the layer if you don't want to cut that rectangle out.

Thanks Gaz - that seems to be the issue.

No problem. it does alter with the different cutters.

the cameo, for example will always set the reg marks to the edge of the card/mat size (A4, 12X12 etc)
the black cat/bullet will set the reg marks to the outside of the cut lines and kind of ignores the media size

your preferences under print+cut will affect it slightly but......

for anyone scratching their head let's take a card base. not the best shape but easiest to imagine and describe
we are cutting the card shape (slightly less than A4 with a score line in the centre)
on the cameo, the reg marks would be set to the outside of the A4 - so you would just turn off the cutline (card base) and send the score line to cut at a low pressure or with a score tool - then swap to the blade, turn off the score and on the card base and send again, now it will cut in the correct base.

with the cats/bullets - when you turn off the card base the reg marks will move in so they are just outside the score line, that's fine until we send the cardbase as now the reg marks are at the edges of the A4 and this means the two lines will NOT match up.

if your media is A4 then you add a rectangle sized to fit just outside the biggest shape (card base), set this to not cut and send this along with the score line - reg marks are at the outside of the rectangle. then turn off the score and on the card base and send that with the rectangle - reg marks are still in the same place so everything should match up

it's one of those things you'll either get or not, you'll get it a lot easier if you can do it. but if you don't have a bullet/cat you won't even have to worry about it (unless your cutter does the same thing of course LOL)
