Please help me with this project

Hello..I'm new to the SCAL world. I'm trying to figure out this project I saw for the Pazzles and do it on my Cricut. I have made handprints of my kids with acrylic paint. Now I want to scan them into my computer. I have had my DD write her name and age. Now I'm trying to figure out how to cut them out. I've downloaded inkscape and now I'm sitting here dumbfounded. Can anyone help...or is this even possible. Thanks in advance for any suggestions
