New firmware update and Scal newbie

Post by tofknit »

Is the new firmware update working with SCAL?
I just went and booted up DS and it's saying I need to update firmware. I currently have 2.3.
Should I do it if I want SCAL to work?

HI all
NO SCAL DOES NOT work with firmware 2.3 on the CExpression.
I am having an AWFUL time trying to DOWNGRADE my firmware to 2.1.
This does NOT seem possible and I am ready to return the software.
Everything I have read states that I should be able to get the 2.1 firmware from the Trial version of CDS but I also did that but no luck.
Is there any way of taking my firmware back from 2.3 to 2.1???

Ummm sorry but YES it is compatible with firmware 2.3 on the Expression as I've been running it on this for some months now without any problems at all. The latest CDS update doesn't require another firmware update so it is fully 100% compatible with SCAL. If you are still having issues Koalagal I would email Todd and ask him.

The other current threads on several boards all indicate that SCAL works with the current firmware/CDS.
Everything I have read states that I should be able to get the 2.1 firmware from the Trial version of CDS but I also did that but no luck.

If you really want to do that, someone may have the old version.

But .......... if you're not using the newest version of SCAL, v1.015, that was released Oct 18, 2008, you may want to try that first.

FYI, the new SCAL is free for those who have an older version.

Hiya, Even thought the latest update of SCAL states it's 1.015 it's actually up to 1.016 (the current newest version). I try to stay up to date with all the newest updates, and I haven't had any problems whatsoever so far. I run Vista, albeit in XP mode to stop it crashing, but since I've done this, I haven't had any issues at all with SCAL.

BTW I checked out www.scrapbook.com for the info you supplied, this was back in August when yes there were some compatibility issues, however, THESE HAVE BEEN RESOLVED now. SCAL is 100% compatible with the latest CDS and it will run on 2.3 for the Expression, plus is compatible with the Baby Bug and the new Cricut Create. No issues at all. Update your SCAL for starters before you go about downgrading your Bug!!! Updates of SCAL are free for those that have purchased version 1.0** up to 1.016 so far as stated. No need to repurchase anything (as stated on the other forum).

Hope this helps,
Mel

Well it wouldn't run on 2.3 so my hubby found an OLD version of CDS online and downloaded it. As soon as we did that and upgraded the firmware to 2.1 it worked.
Both my SCAL and My CDs are brand new versions. Only purchased CDS last month and just got SCAL this week.
So problem solved for whatever reason it just did not want to work on the 2.3 firmware.
Thanks for your input.

Just out of curiosity Koalagal, what operating system are you running on your computer?

Glad you got it to work for you in the end however,
