Ideas for August?

Post by Rosie0530 »

Hey all,
My son is a submariner in the Navy and they are leaving for a long patrol soon. One of the things we are doing is making fun placemats for special nights on board during deployment. They are just quick throw aways but I am lost for ideas to represent August. Any ideas? Thanks.

Wow, how proud you must be of your son. I can't imagine being in a sub for one second.

Well August can certainly be the dog days of summer. Do you mean activity type place mats or just amusing ones depicting August summery days?

Put personal massages on it or motivated one liners. I have heard that they did this on toilet paper so why not on placemats.

In a restaurant I have seen placemats with newspaper articles. Maybe it is nice to combine those two ideas.
In the Netherlands you can buy plastic placemats where you can put a personal pictures in it. They are replaceable.

Thanks you guys. These are all great ideas. We are pleased that he has followed in his dad's footsteps, both Nuclear engineers serving their country for a few years. He'll be on shore duty after this 6 month deployment so that will be a bit better for mom. It was hard to have my husband go to sea and it is still hard to see my son do it. Bittersweet, really. I apppreciate your help and am going to incorporate several of the ideas into 5 different placemats for the patrol.
