eCraft orientation when cutting from SCAL

Hi - I've had SCAL for years with my Cricut. I purchased the eCraft and love it so far. (thank goodness) however, is there a way to feed the paper where what you see on the mat is what it cuts? I am so confused. I place a letter on the mat and it does not cut anywhere near there. I am so used to what I see is what I cut with SCAL/Cricut
