If I want everything on the same layer (and I want it all black to keep from distracting me and to be able to print it for someone else)...when I watched the layer tutorial, he added lements and it kept it on the same layer. When I add elements, it keeps adding new layers. I don't see a preference to keep it on the same layer...
I thought I could select all by holding the shift key and change the color, and I also, I thought maybe this was what folders were for but I don't see how to use the folder. (I tried to drag and drop the layers into the folder layer icon but nothing happened. --I'm a MAC and this is typical for how you do things, MAC-wise..)
Thanks in advance!!!

Re: Layer help, please
A mac person will have to answer you in total...but to get things all one color I just put a selection box around it and group and then with it still selected go to the color box in the Properties Panel and click on the color square and a color palate comes up to change the color. For the outline, if you wish to change that you click on the long rectangle color by the eye which is for turning the layer on and off(hiding or showing)as needed. It is possible that it is a bit different on a mac...I don't know about that, sorry.

Thanks--that all makes sense--But HOW do I get them to stay as one layer instead of every time I add an element it creating a new layer?

I just regroup...I could be missing something easier...but the whole process is what is challenging and fun to me...not speed.
Sorry that I don't know more.

If you watch the tutorial about layers, it says it keeps it all in one layer. But mine doesn't. For me Scrapping is a fun challenge but using a software shouldn't be a challenge at all.

Re: Layer help, please
What tutorial are you watching? It might be outdated since new objects have gone into their own layers for quite some time. Your two options are to use Group and everything will be placed into one folder, or to use Object/Merge. Object/Merge will combine everything into one object though and you won't be able to move individual shapes separately.
