Craft Edge

I'm brand new to SCAL and DS too but am committed to creating a word book. If I'm going to set up something for fonts and want to do it right from the beginning, what would you suggest? I think I read somewhere about placing them on a jump drive and I was thinking about doing that since it would then be portable between computers. I'd need some sort of program for management if I understand correctly. Any advice would be appreciated.
