Every once in awhile, I get an interesting artwork challenge. This one is different from the one that I posted the other day. It took me awhile (20 Minutes) to figure out how to do this artwork and make it so that it was merged correctly etc. The artwork is a Star and a Capital S. The two are on top of each other only the Top and bottom part of the S are behind the Star and the middle is in front of the star. This is a one color artwork, so you have to show the shape of the S and the Star.

Todd, can you post a picture, I can't envision what you are wanting to see. Is the S overlapping the star or inside it?

It is overlapping. Think of a snake coiled around an object.

Actually, this is for an actual job here at work. This isn't going to be cut on a Cricut, but on a CNC mill. The artwork has to be set up the same way with the paths and merges. I was just wondering if the way I created the file was best way or if it could be done faster and easier.

I would love to know how you did it Todd. My daughter's school's logo uses that same theory and I've had a time trying to make it look right.

It took me about 20 minutes to figure out how to do this.

Here is a summary of what I did.
Laid one image on top of the other.
Broke them apart.
Selected certain parts and offset the paths. The problem here is the offset cut into areas of the star and that area looked cut out and wrong.
Selected the cut out area filled in Black and then selected the cutout area that I needed to use and filled that in White.
Merged the artwork.

Probably the long way,

I shadowed the S, the layered on the star, then path difference.

I then wrote down the x and y coordinates of where the star should be joined, then drew a triangle at those coordinates to merge and copied it to all three corners

Two of the triangles are shown in this image:

Then once the star was cut out like I wanted, I copied it, then shadowed the star the same distance as the previously shadowed S.

Then I differenced the shadowed star and the S. then merged the results to form one color.

That was fun, thanks for the challenge, even tho I was a day late.

What you did worked and the end result is the same. Good job!
