Can you use layers to separate colors?
Can you use layers to separate colors?
I'm trying to figure out how to use layers in Inkscape. Do they come into SCAL as layers and I can then separate them? I've got a couple of files that the pieces are 2 or 3 colors and I'd like to be able to move them around on the SCAL mat to fit the paper sizes I had to cut from.

You will have to separate in Inkscape. I use the Path>Break Apart. I color the shapes in Inkscape but that is solely for reference. Once you import into SCAL, it will show as a blank outline.

I use Ungroup for the files I've uploaded to the boards. Then I can separate apart the layers, throw out duplicate layers (there to add color depth to the SVG version) and lines and other things that don't make sense for a cutout, then arrange the remainder to import it into SCAL. Sometimes when a piece is separated, it also needs to be ungrouped - i.e. nested groups. This may not be the only way, but it's a way that works for me.
