Mat on the Computer Screen does not equal the cutting mat?

Hi has anyone else had this problem before? I recently got my new Expression and I'm finding when I design something with SCAL, when I place my paper onto my mat ready to cut..even when I line it up with the screen view, it's off? I've worked out it's about 1/4 of an inch out. So I have to move my paper 1/4 of an inch up above where it shows it should be...kinda annoying, as I do a lot of things using multiple colours so I might have things down to 1"x 1"square coloured pieces on my mat. This just makes it really hard to judge where to place the paper to be exact. Anyone else having this issue?

I don't put my pieces that close. I try to put them between inches. If you can get it to a 1/4 or an inch and it works, that's great.
I that I'm ADHD and don't have the patience for being that technical.

NurseMel,
Capadia, on the Cricut Message board, has also identified this problem with Design Studio. She was desiging a scalloped edge and had problems with the scallop cut not being cut the same on either end of her 12" cut. Her suggested "fix" was to place the paper 1/4" above the marked edge on the mat. Here is her description:

Since both Design Studio and now SCAL seem to have this same issue, it would seem the originating problem is with the Cricut not the software being used.

Thanks for those Annointed & Shari. I guess I'm just annoyed at it is all. I tend to do lots of layered cuts all on one mat (just quicker for me). So I will have up to maybe 8 or 9 coloured pieces on my mat ready to cut certain parts and just find it really annoying that I have to "guess" where to place them now on the Expression. I've been out a few times and had to recut things.
