Hey again all! Just wanted to post an update. I decided to purchase the Cricut Expression bundle from HSN that someone suggested. Love, love, love it! I haven't cut anything but paper, I've got to buy some vinyl to try out, but so far it's so neat! Tonight I downloaded Inkscape and I will begin playing with that. I have looked @ heather m's blog/tutorials, trying to figure it out. Once I get some vinyl, I plan on downloading the SCAL trial version to play a bit. Just wanted to say thanks again for all of the great advice given by talanhart, heatherm, butterfly, jasen, and others on my 1st post. I'm sure I will be back again with questions, but for now, I plan on reading and learning as much as I can from all of your earlier posts. It's killing me, having to take it slow and learn all this stuff, but I guess it's a necessity, as I have no clue what I'm doing right now. I'm also searching the forum for your advice on the best place to buy vinyl. I know lots of new stuff is added daily, so I will go crazy trying to keep up, but at least it's fun!
Thanks again!
Rhonda

I say within 3 months you will be a pro.
You remind myself of me, just last year! I was overwhelmed, and just wanted to LEARN how to do it so I COULD do it. I remember first looking at My Pink Stampers' website and videos and carving out enough time out of my day to watch two of her videos each night. Her videos are definately geared to learning about the Cricut while using carts. Then I found Susan Blue Robot's web page on how to use a bingbat image in inkscape and how to manipulate nodes
http://susanbluerobot.blogspot.com/2008 ... inish.html Her website is not video, but is many screen shots with an explanation and that helped to put things in order for me, as I could flip back and forth easily and I have been off and running ever since.

I have lots of information on my blog about vinyl. I find myself hardly cutting paper anymore, but my goal is to make more cards in the next few weeks. Hopefully my blog will help with your vinyl questions.

Thanks again, all! I have a little composition book that I am making notes in, so I will definitely add these suggestions, along with bookmarking the blogs mentioned. I seem to remember things better when I make notes for myself. I actually bought some vinyl today @ JoAnn's and played a little. I have much to learn, as far as transferring the vinyl onto things...tricky business! Hopefully I will soon have some pictures to post to show off my progress!

I have a tip for you that I use.......I bought 2 8GB memory sticks and when I come across an SVG or a SCUT file, I save them to the both of those sticks (which I keep on a ballchain). I have a small piece of masking tape wrapped around each with #1 and #2 written on them so I don't forget which one I just downloaded something to. Believe me, it helps

(My memory is horrible!!) That way there, I can keep the memory in my laptop and desktop free. I have a habit of saving things on the computers and clogging them up. I constantly have these sticks with me........at home, at work etc. HTH

that's a great idea! I already have folders on my favorites for Cricut stuff, fonts, vinyl stuff, blah, blah, blah... I can see things getting clogged already.
