Good Morning

I'm hoping that there is someone out there in SCAL-land who can help me with how to drill the hole in glass blocks for the lights? I have been collecting them a little at a time when I'd make a stop at my Home Depot and they were going to be Christmas presents but I didn't know how to do the holes for the lights. I have a cordless drill but not sure what else I need or how to get started. I tried You-Tube which really wasn't all that helpful unless I was looking at the wrong videos?? (drilling holes in glass aquariums is what was close...... not what I wanted) Is there a website or somewhere I could get step by step directions to do this? I'd like to get started now so I can get these out of my craftroom and ready for gift giving. Can someone out there who has done this point me in the right direction? Thank you so much in advance.

go on ebay and search diamond drill bits..best to find someone with a drill press ..

I found our glass drill bits at Lowes in the drill bit section. You can also find them at Sears, Ace Hardware and Home Depot. Just get one big enough for the bulbs and cord to go through.
Very easy to do and they turned out perfect.

My husband used a veriable speed drill, set at a slower speed, he said you don't want it to drill to fast. Remember you are cutting glass so protect your eyes with goggles or safety glasses.

My husband got the drill bit at Lowe's also. He put the block in the sink and had a dribble of water hitting the spot where he wanted to drill so the bit wouldn't overheat. It worked like a charm and only took a minute or less.

Yeah, you definitely want a bit meant for glass. Mu hubster had to do a bunch of these a few years back for his boss's wife.
