Please help!

I purchased and used SCAL w/ my baby bug w/o any problems. A few months ago, when a bought my E, version 2.31, and tried it, SCAL wouldn't work at all w/ it! After several emails back and forth w Todd, trying everything, I was so frustrated that I gave up. Yesterday I decided to try again. After 7 hours, I QUIT!!! Please, someone help me! I had renewed faith when I downloaded SCAL2 trial version, and it worked!!! So I thought if I updated to SCAL2, my E should work, right?! Wrong!!!! Now neither the trial version nor the updated version will work. 
When I hit cut, it stops and says "Cutting with Cricut..." and does nothing. After a couple of minutes, a box opens that says "Unable to get device 19"
I love SCAL and want so badly to use the program, will someone please help me?!!!!
