Firmware will not update

Post by camaren »

I've been trying for hours to update my cricut's firmware through Design Studio. I have a cricut version 1 (maybe that's the problem). I've loaded the driver for the USB cable. I've downloaded Design Studio (to get the firmware update). I've put my cricut in firmware mode (holding the stop button and then the on button til I hear the beep). I start the "begin update now". It takes about 8 minutes and then the Cricut makes a noise and shows "Version 1 OK". The Design Studio tells me to install second update. Then I get the message that the firmware update failed. Is there a techie out there that can tell me what I'm doing wrong or if it can't be done at all? I want to get this part done before I buy SCAL which I want badly. Thanks. :?:

Try updating the firmware again. It took me three passes to get my baby bugs updated from 1.3 to 1.34. The second pass I got the same error message that you did, so I ran it again and it updated that time. HTH

I went through the same very frustrating thing. I researched every possible thing I was doing wrong and finally I gave up.. I called my Joann Fabrics where I bought my cricut and told them my problem, since they hold cricut and gypsy classes they were able to update my cricut using thier gypsy! I also have the smaller cricut with version 1.0... you only need to get it to a 1.34 for scal which the gypsy is capable of doing. If your computer is reading 'cricut not found' like mine was as well as reading 'update failed' you will have to go into your control panel on the computer and click on add new hardware then opt to do it manually and search for the desgin studio software in your hard drive. Well thats it for the headache I went through trying to get updated.. hope it helps you :)

and ya know even if you didnt buy your cricut from a joanns it might be worth calling a place like that which holds 'how-to' classes.. im sure they have the abilities to get that thing updated :)
