We finally broke down and bought the Windows version of SCAL to get us through the holidays - too many projects on our minds now that we have the Expression to wait for the Mac version.

My little house cut out as I expected. Yay! I did learn a few things putting it together:
  • Make the tabs big - especially the roof ones. You're not going to save enough paper to make a difference, and big tabs are easier to work with than small tabs. Plus, if you do them right, they can add structural support to the building.
  • Put tabs where the walls attach to the roof - the horizontal part. The walls have a tendency to bow out; a tab at the top holding the roof in place will solve that.
  • Four walls in one cut takes a 24" mat. My little house is only 3" per side using the 12" mat. That's just too small. I'm going to try making some drawings with 2 walls per cut. That'll add one more seam, but will allow each wall to be twice as wide.
I'm hoping to have a spooky house plan done in time for Halloween.

I don't know if anyone still needs them, but here are the MS houses in svg format. I recommend going to her website and downloading the template so that you can use it as a guide for assembly.

Thanks. I think those are going to make very small buildings if cut on a 12x12 mat. Have you built any of them? The house plan I put in the SVG/Object sub-forum creates a house that is about 5 inches tall.

No, I have not cut them yet. I think that on a 12x12 mat they would probably make great ornaments for the holidays. If you needed them larger you would have to use a 12x24 mat.
