I only have SCAL 1. and I have to do it in Inkscape. To do that you is use your curser to pull the face apart.

Craig when I ungroup the santa box and save each piece in a layer and open it in SCAL 2 I get a double oval frame around some pieces which I don't see in Inkscape when I hit view outline.. Can you please tell me why that is???

Oops. :)
I left the mouth as an Ellipse and didn't convert to a path.
If you do that it should fix your problem
