Inkscape Bounding Box question...

I am having the exact same problem! But it is just one simple half circle. I have tried all of the suggestions and I'm about fed up! I don't know why there is such a HUGE red selection box around this tiny image when I open in SCAL.....this happens to me pretty much everything I import into SCAL. Any suggestions?

I am having the oposite problem. My box is too small. When I do something with a straight line at the top or bottom it cuts it off when I transfer it in. Should I add a random node somewhere?
