Where are you converting the jpg to svg?
You can do that right in scal2. Use the trace feature for the jpg, and then use EXPORT and it will export as a .svg.

What program are you using to convert the jpeg to a svg? I use the free inkscape software. I trace the jpeg then save as a svg. From there I can import the svg in SCAL and it hasn't given me any error messages so far.
