Need Some Help

Post by gmapatty »

As I am still learning SCAL; I am having a hard time with a project that I am working on. I am trying to make invitations for a fall together. I am using a leaf pattern. I am trying to join them together so I have a card in the shape of a leaf. My problem is that I cannot get the two leaves to line up so I can fold the card.

If you are doing this in Inkscape duplicate your image.. flip it and then use the align and distribute button located at the top of inkscape..

Put your image on the mat and decide best where to join the two and rotate so that side is on the left, and go copy and paste in place using the right mouse clicker and then use the flip in the Properties Panel.
Then slide it to the left side of the first leaf and find the spot to join them, overlapping just a bit. Now...select one of them and look at the x and y. write them down...the x should but is not always the same...a leaf may be tricky. I do things a lot by just looking, and I use the very center of the mat a lot to line things up that are a mirror image to look at the grid lines and see if it mirrors properly. Hope this helps. At the end go PATH UNION.

I am not doing this in inkscape because I do not know Inkscape, maybe one day. Thank you sweetness. For gj1, I did what you suggested and it seemed to work until I cut it ou. That is when I saw that the stems were not right. When I fold the card, the stems are ecah opposite. If that makes any sense. Any way, I have posted the file so you can see. I guess I will continue to work on this.

I have circled the flip button on the right. That was all you needed to do with one of the leaves. Good going. I did it or you can redo it. I did not attempt to cut this yet.

Thank you for your help. I thought that I did flip it, but after looking at yours, I guess I didn't. I will try and cut this and let you know.

Thank you once again, your file did cut the stems right. I am still trying to figure out what I did wrong. I flipped the image (at least I thought I did) but it did not turn out right. Your fix worked perfectly. Thanks again
