fonts and shapes table missing

I seem to be missing the 3rd window that showed all the characters in a particular font or dingbat file. I know that in addition to the library window and the properties window there was another one. I have clicked on the Shapes Table in the drop-down menu under Window but it doesn't seem to do anything. It is impossible to use dingbats without this Table. Please help me. What am I doing wrong? It is very frustrating to have been able to function before, and now I am just floundering.

Try Edit>Preferences then Restore Defaults...that should work

I did the restore thing.. and they came back

I have done the restore for the shapes but I don't have any shapes in the shape box. I thought at one time I did but sure can't see them now. Do I have to import some shapes to have some?? Help please.

I have the shape box but no matter what ding I pick it shows all squares.Even if I pick a cat ding. I have gone and restored it a couple of times and its still the same thing. Just squares in the shape box. Then all of a sudden there will be 5 shapes and then they are gone and just the squares again. its weird. Does anyone have any ideas on how to fix this?

Many dings use only a few squares where letters would be in an alphabet font. You have to scroll through the display window to find where the dings are located amongst all possible positions. Some dings may be at the beginning, others in the middle, and others at the end. Not all position will have every square filled. I have some where there are only 6 or 7 squares filled, and others with +/- 20 squares filled. HTH
