I would like to see more of the font in the font selection window than ABC. Seems many characters could easily be added in the light blue area I've highlighted as seemingly wasted space. I would think it would be more important for most designers to see more of the example of the font than all of a potentially long font name.
While we are here, I REALLY don't like having to click on the mat after I've already selected the font from the menu. I lose my selection every time forgetting the need to click the mat. It's like having to select it twice to select it. Perhaps there's a really good reason it has to be that way, in which case, I respect it. Would just really like it to start typing where my mouse was last. I can always move it.
Thanks!

Re: Font Suggestion
Check out the topic that I just bumped called Scrolling through the fonts. Using this function, you can type your word and then see how it looks with all your fonts just by turning the wheel on your mouse.

Re: Font Suggestion
Yeah, I've tried that, but it's more strain on the eyes and used to hog my old computer system, sometimes to the point a program crash would occur from "loading" too many fonts. I still would like to see more of the font in the preview pane, or the ability to size the preview pane to see what you need to see. With dingbats, it's just nice to see more. I do use a font manager, but I think this could be improved from within the program and would yield cartwheels here!
Re: Font Suggestion
Maybe if the font magnified 5 times the size that it is as you scrolled over it would be an easier fix than resizing the whole panel.

Re: Font Suggestion
The issue for me is that the font panel could be more useful.
Eye strain doesn't come from the font size issue so much as trying to see one word morph through massive numbers of fonts to get to where I want.
In terms of the panel, for me, it's like trying to choose a shirt you want wear in your closet with 5 threads and it's name rather than just seeing more of the shirt and being able to grab what you need.
Photoshop Elements has a similar size frame for the fonts, but seems much more useful.

Re: Font Suggestion
I wish I could take a Screen shot of the way the fonts look in Illustrator. When you select a font, a whole window pops up with the names written in it's own font. It is a great way to see them all at once and how they would look. The font panel in SCAL would be more efficient if it were done this way.

Re: Font Suggestion
I can visualize that. Sound good. Seems a shame to waste so much space on the title.

Re: Font Suggestion
I was just looking at mine and it doesn't have that blue portion that's in your screenshot. It still isn't very easy to see the fonts but it doesn't have that wasted space, the font alphabet starts immediately after the font name.
