Sometimes the PDF file can be opened with Ink or Illustrator and the files are in vector format. I tried with a PDF, but the one I found didn't work. Where did you find your PDF file? It might be worth looking for a good PDF.

The one I have is a pdf of the handbook. Its the colored pages like you were looking at the actual handbook. I can email it to you if you'd like

I am guessing that since PC is wise to that trick they never released a hig rez version of the LAB PDF.
Here are 2 sites with wonderful LAB-style cut files

Kay,
Good point. I think some of the earlier versions were in vector format. I also read somewhere that a site was asked to remove all the PDF files of the handbooks probably for this same reason. It's getting tough to be sneaky! LOL

The ones I have someone scanned their handbooks. Not sure that the quality is better

I thought most people took images from DS and not the pdf anyways..

If you go to the Cricut website and click on the info page and then on cartridges you can see each cartridge and view the book page by page.

You can download PDFs here and do some ungrouping and other doctoring to get some nice cutfiles

At the risk of sounding very dense, I have a newbie question (again). I have downloaded the life's a beach pdf file and imported it into inkscape. I have ungrouped the objects, but I don't get all the little boxes around the individual images like usual. What am I doing wrong. Can you not use the newer pdf handbooks in the same way? If not how do I convert them where I can use them (if possible). If someone can tell me how to I also have the new stand and salute
Thanks

You need to hold down the shift button while you select each one. Then you'll get the box around each piece. HTH!
