Activation Code
Activation Code
Hi, I bought SCAL (v2) many years ago and used it initially on my Windows machine. Today I downloaded it (v5) to use on my MAC. I put my serial number in from my v2. It is giving me a message about this serial number being related to a Windows machine. Can't I use this same serial number on my MAC now?
Re: Activation Code
Two issues: one is that major upgrades are not free. You have to pay for them because, you know, the developer needs to feed his family. Minor updates are always free. So, for example, since SCAL5 was release in July 2018, there have been 49 updates to fix bugs, add new cutters, make improvements here and there.
Also, a reg code initially set up for Windows will not work for registering on a Mac. However, since SCAL allows you to register on any two computers, you can contact SCAL and they will assist you with that... BUT, again, we would be talking about a SCAL5 reg code you bought, not your SCAL2 reg code which can only be used with SCAL2 software.
So, here's what I recommend. Go to the following link and try purchasing the SCAL5 UPGRADE for $29.99 and then when it gets to the point of requiring you to enter you SCAL2 reg number, try that. I think it will work... not 100% sure because I don't personally know of anyone in your situation of upgrading from a really old version, but it's worth a shot.

If it does NOT work then you will either need to buy the $59.99 version or you can try contacting them to see if there's something different you can do to get the upgrade for $29.99. Here's the contact link:

Re: Activation Code
OK. Thank you. I don't think they will let me after reading their FAQs. They have to pay their IT staff (LOL, that is what I do as well, so I get that for sure!) So, before I buy the new version, am I able to use the v5 with Cricut Expressions? Its been a long time and not looking to upgrade my machine for another short stint. Thank you.
Re: Activation Code
The Cricut Expression 1 will work with SCAL 5 but NOT the Cricut Expressions 2. Basically, Provo Craft is one of those companies that does everything possible to prevent their cutters from cutting directly from 3rd programs, like SCAL. Here is a video showing you how to make it work and you can test it with the trial version of SCAL before buying SCAL5. Of course, I'm assuming you have the Expression 1 machine and not the Expression 2.

Sandy McC-
How do I know if my Expression is a 1 or 2? I don't see either number anywhere on my machine.
Thanks!

Re: Activation Code
The Expression 1 has the control panel on the LEFT side of the machine as shown in the following photo. The Expression 2 has the control panel in the middle of the machine.
