I'm using the square erase tool And, I've selected "Keep paths closed," but the paths are staying open. I've just recently reloaded the software, so I don't think it's a version issue.

Hi, can you post the file and an image of what you are trying to do, perhaps there is a better way than using the eraser.

Maybe post a screen shot of what you're seeing after you use the Erase tool. I don't know how to make that happen. Every time I try out the Erase function, the paths on either side of the erase are definitely closed.
