Eclips2 issues/ suggestions and help?

Post by binfordw »

Hi,

Just tried to call Sizzex about an issue I have, but they were zero help. I know there has to be a solution, so here I am.

My Eclips 2 has issues with losing steps in the (X?) axis- The sheet in/out axis. During some rapid moves it loses steps and then of course the cut part is junk. I first thought this was a misaligned cutting sheet, dragging on the edges of the guides, but after more issues I've seen it does it when there is no mechanical binding or drag as well. As will all stepper motors, slower speeds increase holding torque, so running the machine at a reduced speed does help prevent the position losses.

The roller feels weaker at times, with less holding power. I believe this is either a bad driver board, or possibly a power supply issue, although I haven't had time to check things in more detail yet. The bad part is, Sizzex told me there were no parts available.

Aside from buying a full replacement machine, does anyone know where I can get parts for one of these?? Has anyone else had these issues or have any input on them?

** Since writing this, I'm really leaning towards a power supply issue, I plan to get a generic 24v supply and see if it cures the issues, fingers crossed!

Thanks

Sorry you are having problems with your machine.

Have you tried asking for help on the Facebook group? It's called Sizzix eClips and eCal Users.

No, I was pointed here from another forum. I appreciate the link, I don't do facebook, but maybe I can get my wife to check it out.

I love the machine, although wasn't overly happy to have support tell me they don't mess with any parts. I did try a quality power supply, but saw no changes. I can check the windings on the stepper- or swap it with the Y axis to rule it out, but not sure what to do if the drive board has some kind of issue yet.

For $300 or so, I might just be time ahead to buy a backup/replacement Eclips2.

Thanks for the reply!

I would contact Sizzix again. My one experience dealing with them was a good one and they have a history of good customer service. Take a video clip if you can of what is happening during the cutting process and ask if you can send it to them by email to review.
