I saw this great video today on how to create word/subway art with an app called Tagul. Creations can be saved in png or svg format. Pour your words into any closed shape too.
Check it out here.

I am off to do some. Come on back and let us know what you created and share more tips.

Re: Word Art made Simple
I went and looked at the video, and it's really so great! Thanks for sharing that. Is it always free? Or is it a trial that is free?
Re: Word Art made Simple
Yes it is FREE. It is a online app and I did create the bell with text and colored it. I saved as an svg and Inkscape recognized it as a linked file….not good as I can change the colors but cannot do much else. So for now what you create is what you get except for some color changes.
I could not export to eCAL
Maybe KAY (cleversomeday) who is a word press fan will come along and figure out the rest of it. I will contact the lovely ladies who made the video and see what they have to say.
The file is in "root" and it won't union/combine etc, but it will group. More work need but I'll keep working with it. If you do better please share. UPDATE You do not "open" in Inkscape you IMPORT it. See this FAQ

Re: Word Art made Simple
The FAQ is wrong when it says that Illustrator does not support svg files. I make all my svg files in Illustrator, and use them in ECAL with no problems/issues. Gonna have to go play with this and see what I can come up with.
Re: Word Art made Simple
I think I am getting the hang of creating these things. This is a p2c ornament I made yesterday. You need to figure out which word is going to be in the center and keep player and viewing until it works. Save as png and then make the mat shape around it in eCAL.
