Video Tutorial - Basic Inkscape Techniques

Post by dan99 »

I've created a video tutorial showing how to create a simple holly wreath in Inkscape which could then be cut in SCAL. I don't claim to be an expert, but hopefully it will be useful for some! Of course, the techniques I use to create the wreath could just as easily be used to draw anything you like :)

That is an awesome video! Newbies as well as more 'seasoned' users of Inkscape will learn a lot.

I particularly benefited from the Union tool under Path. I have used it before but didn't realize it would join two selections so easily. I have always been breaking paths and deleting nodes to combine two pics. Boy, watch me now!!

If you use Path>Break Apart to get separate parts for a shape and then decide you need to use the union to make two shapes one, you will have to select the two shapes, Path>Combine and then move them together to union. The separate parts will not union until they have been combined.

Tam, I do have a graphics tablet, but to my eternal shame it has been unplugged from my computer for 4 or 5 years now! LOL I guess that makes me a mouseketeer! :D
