Card for my Grandson

Post by lindamac »

Made this card for my Grandson's 18th birthday. Did you know you can use your Cameo to make your own paper? I found the pocket watch images on Google, traced them in Inkscape and exported them as pngs in different colors.I did not save as an svg. I put the color images on the Cameo virtual mat, arranged them, lightened some and then printed them on an 8 1/2 x 11 antique looking cardstock. I traced one of the images with the Cameo and cut it out, attached chain, used thick pop dots to make it stand out and attached the wings. I printed out the sentiment using a Papermate Erasermate pen with my Cameo, put embossing powder on it and embossed it. Yes, you can use embossing powder with an Erasermate pen!!! Works great. I love being able to make my own printed cardstock using the Cameo. I love that machine!!!!

Not only is your design spectacular, the explanation on how you did it was very interesting too.

Great job on both counts.

Oh my gosh, I love this card!!! What a great job you did on this. I am so lazy. I have not learned how to use anything except to cut on my Cameo using SCAL. :(

Thanks for the explanation. :)

This is a fantastic idea and you created a really special card!
When you brought the png's onto your mat...did each one have a white box around them, as you arranged them? If so did this pose any challenges for you?

When you export a bitmap in Inkscape, it saves it as a png file. I haven't had any white boxes around my images to print. But when I went to cut the watch that I popped, there was an invisible square around the watch so I just added a bunch of nodes around the square and moved them around and close to the watch where I wanted it to cut. I was going to show the page on the mat but my computer updated Windows and shut down when I wasn't looking so I lost the watch paper. Here are the purple flowers I made for another card. With the Cameo, you can make your images different shades of transparency which is handy.

This first picture shows how the watch would cut if I didn't add more nodes.
The second pictures shows added nodes.
The third picture shows moving the nodes into place.
