Would love to have an option when tracing an image for print and cut to shrink the cut line say 1 mm inside the graphic -- to compensate for minor errors in the precision of the cut. Of course it would be nice to be able to specify how much you want to shrink the cut line from the edge of the print.

With Scal3 and ecal there is a shadow inset under Object Shadow layer...just check inset and make your cut line just inside the original.

The shadow offset traces the exterior square of my jpg, not the colored oval inside which is the shape I actually need cut

Trace, then use Object Break Apart and remove the rectangle, then make the shadow inset of the oval.

sorry, I don't understand this. I still get a shadow layer around the box and a cut line around the oval.

Can you post your jpg...and what version of scal are you using? Thanks...I will see what it all looks like if you do this.
