Laptop in for Service ??'s About SCAL2 & 3 on Desktop
Okay my laptop needed to go in for service after a virus corrupted my OS. I had SCAL2 for use with my Cricut E on my laptop. I had everything backed up on an external hard drive and was able to go from there with SCAL2 when getting the laptop back. (I do not remember having to reinstall SCAL2 on my laptop (but maybe I did). So then I downloaded SCAL3 because I also have a Silhouette Cameo. I have been using the Cameo but it was sporadic because I kept getting a message indicating it could not connect to either SCAL3 with my Cameo or SCAL2 with my Cricut E. Of course I checked every thing I could think of and then some after reading different things about each software as well as the Cameo and it would work (cut) an then not work (cut) after each use. So I took my laptop in to see if it needed service for a second time, but for this reason. Well yes it did need service as the USB ports were shorting out. So I will be without my laptop where I have SCAL2 and SCAL3 installed for a couple/few weeks. So I presume I can install SCAL2 to use with my Cricut E and SCAL3 to use with my Cameo on my desktop while my lap top is away for service. Now I do understand that I can not use SCAL2 or SCAL3 on more then one computer at a the same time and this is not a problem (By the way both computers are Windows 7). But my fear is when I get my laptop back I might have to reinstall both back on it and by this time they would have both been already installed on the laptop and desktop (So two computers for each program). I do not want to be with out either Program and certainly cannot be w/o SCAL2 as I am not sure if this would be a support issue or not and we all know the program is no longer available for sale (I do have the program CD for SCAL 2 and the serial number for both SCAL2 and SCAL 3 so no issue there). As well as I do not want to have to physically purchase SCAL3 because it was the free downlaod as I already purchased SCAL 2. I apoligize if this is confusing, I am not computer savy so it was even more confusing for me. Would some one please educate me on this matter, I am so lost w/o at least being able to use one of these programs. TIA.

You sound just like I did about a year ago or so... :)...
I believe you can just use this form to get them installed on your pc, and then when the laptop is back, use this form again to put them back.

Certainly, at anytime if there is a problem, you can contact support...

I did the similar thing with one computer in the shop and one at home, but the one I wanted ultimately to use was the one in the shop. It will all work out fine.

GJ1, Thank you. I thought I was going to loose it over a silly computer, I just wanted to craft and the silly thing didn't want me to - lol. I did get the cuts I needed for my project so this will keep me busy for a little while. It's been a long night so I might try installing both SCAL2 and SCAL3 on my desk top during business hours tomorrow afternoon. Then when my lap top comes back see how that goes and if I need support I can use the links you were so kind to provide me with. I do have both the serial numbers for each program so that helps a lot. I am happy to hear they are so understanding.
Thanks again,
Jen

Just to add -- you may have SCAL on a desktop and a laptop simultaneously (for your own use of course). But seems like you did everything right and I also went through this same thing when my hard drive failed and re-installed with no problem.
If you have a problem re-activating, because you get limited times to do so -- make sure you contact CraftEdge support, explain to them your hard drive crashed and you need to do a reinstall. Give them you serial number and they can set it up so you can reactive your software.
