HI all, before I try and destroy it... can it cut thin metal? I would like to make metal bookmarks with my cricut... but am not wiling to take the risk... coward, I know! *chicken noise*

If any more adventorous soul has tried this, please let me know of the outcome and the metal you used! I love metal embellishments and bookmarks, but they are very expensive.

Many thanks,
Eva

I believe you can. You need the thin metal and a deep cutting blade not your standard cutting blade. I too am eager to try this but was thinking more like punches.

I don't think I would be willing to try it.. Metal against medal can lead to serious consequences.. Like metal sparks??? not to mention the blade would probably snap...

I have cut heavier foil. You know that tape you use to put duct work together? I have cut that with my Cricut. It's close to the heavy duty Reynold's foil. I don't know where you could find metal sheets that would be thin enough to cut.

thanks for your replies.

Nope, I wouldn't be the pioneer, to be honest *more chicken noise*

I think I'll keep it with thick pear/metal card for the time being... I'll try to find that foil tape and give it a go.

Cheers,
Eva

There is craft metal that I am sure the Cricut will cut. It is soft and pliable and would look great on a card. I get it at the craft store and it is rolled and in a box. I can check the name and post later.

You should not be afraid to try to cut it with your Cricut. You can basically look at your medium and tell if the cricut will cut it or not. If it is too thick or too hard, the Cricut will probably not cut it. And when that is the case, I usually look around to find a substitute.

Yes, I can spend hours in a craft store so I only go when I need something and have hours to spare.

I would think that pop/soda cans would work. they are very thin. Funny that this question would come up as I was thinking of trying it on my Baby bug which I use as a back up. Maybe I will try it this weekend and let you know how it went.

Yes it can cut thin metal. The craft metal sold at craft stores works great. you do need the deep cut blade holder. You can also emboss your metal before cutting it out with the Cri-Kits embossing tool(www.cri-kits.com). It is double sided and has different sized tips and fits in their magnetic gel pen carrier. Works great with vellum too!

Thank you so much for your ideas.

I'll give it a go one of these days, still have to find a metal sheet I can use for it and get a deep cut holder, but it's definitely one thing I would like to do as metal looks gorgeous.

Cheers,
Eva

Didn't I read somewhere (maybe the cricut forms) that someone cut shrink plastic with their machine? I would think this wouldn't be much thicker (the craft metal at least)
