eCal 2 with original eClips

I have the first, original version of the Sizzix eClips machine. I have been on version 1.508 of eCal for several years. I am considering going ahead and purchasing the upgrade to eCal 2. Can eCal 2 be used with the first version of the eclips machine? Will this improve the print to cut feature than never really worked well with older versions?
