Craft Edge

I was learning the different features of ecal 2 and looked at the path offset tool. I picked a shape from the library filled it with a pattern , all good. I then edit copy and paste next to the original. On the new object I selected path offset of 1, when I hit ok, the program upsized the object to the size of the offset. I would have thought that the path offset would have kept the object the same size but created a cut line outside the image, leaving a white margin around the shape the size of the offset.
Since I'm new to the software, it could be my misunderstanding the offset function.
