eCAL Crashing when trying to size a pattern....HELP!

Post by JenniferPalmer »

Hey y'all!

Newbie to the board and to eCAL but not to digital cutters.

I am in eCAL trying to add a pattern to something for PNC. The pattern is coming up sized to 1"x1" ratio-so really, REALLY tiny, and it's basically tiling the pattern rather than flood filling the shape. When I try to resize it so it would be closer to the size it would be if I were cutting from a 12x12 sheet of printed cardstock eCAL is telling me it has a runtime error and is crashing. Has anybody else run in to this? I have emailed support at CE and we'll see if this is a new problem or something I am doing wrong.

I am interested in this problem. Would you feel comfortable posting the file you are working with and I will see what I can do.

If the pattern is something you paid for or is otherwise under copyright I am sending you a pm with my email and you can send it to me privately.

Thanks

Hi, got the file.

I'm pretty certain that the crashing problem is coming from the fact that the file is very large and between eCAL and your computer memory it won't hold it all. The paper you downloaded is a very high resolution meant for direct printing. (12x12 and 300 dpi). Using the "pattern" effect as shown in the svgcuts video doesn't work for this large file. It is the way eCAL and SCAL were designed to add patterns.

The Tile effect is happening because the image is not designed to be seamless.

To use this paper image the only thing I can think of is to use file/place image which does bring the printable image onto the eCal mat. This works as you want it. You can resize up or down as you need for your cutting image. If your eCal still crashes then resize the image in a photo program like Adobe PhotoShop Elements to about 3.5x3.5" save as .jpg. On my Mac the image loads at about 10x10 and is fully scalable. You still can't use add pattern because it still tiles.

You can find seamless paper patterns here for sure that work http://patterncooler.com) or do a google search for seamless patterns.

I hope this is clear as I don't know how to explain it any better.

Let me know if you get a different answer from CEdge or if you need help with place image.

Thanks for letting me play.

My ecal has been crashing & freezing up this last week in several different projects. Maybe the new update they posted today will help. It won't hurt to update, maybe it will help you.

I had done this early last week and it worked fine. Same file and everything-it wasn't tiling the pattern, it was sized correctly, no issues. I updated to the newest release and then ran in to this issue. I will look for the latest update and see if it helps.

Thanks for your help Susan. I'll let you know if and when I hear back from CE.
