Print & cut SVG files on Cricut Explore Air 2

Hi, I am trying to export SVG files to Cricut design space, to print and cut with my Cricut explore air 2.
I can import the graphic I want to use easily and add a shadow layer, but when I export it and bring into design space, I only have the shadow layer and not the original image to print and then cut.
Can anyone advise where I'm going wrong?
