Can I use my own registration marks when contour cutting?

Post by atomicimprints »

I would like to print my images from other programs (Photoshop, Illustrator, etc.) instead of SCALP. I seem to have better control over the ink color profiles when printing. Can I make my own registration marks in those programs to be used with Print + Cut feature of SCALP? How would I go about doing that?

Not as far as I know and haven't heard that one mentioned on the forum so far. The registration marks are internal to the SCAL software.

I think the answer depends to some extent on your machine and how often you would want to print.

If you have a machine that just uses dots, you could either make a physical overlay and manually put the dots on your printout, or you could probably create a digital overlay using distances in your Print and Cut settings.

The Silhouette on the other hand has more complex shapes. I know that people have experimented with this, but I don't have any details.

I was kind of thinking that it wasn't possible, but thought I'd ask anyway. I have a US Cutter Laserpoint I.

What kind of registration marks does it use? Does it find them automatically or do you navigate to them?

When you print a file from SCALP, you have to check a box to "add registration marks". They kind of look like an "L" shape. I'm wondering if I can figure out what the offset from the image is and add my own??? I just might have to try it....
