Printing without using a mat

Hey all,

I'm a new Cameo user and while I've had a blast with it so far, I've run into a snag with SCAL3 that I haven't found searching the forums.

I know with the Silhouette Software you can print without a mat, which enables you to print items longer than 2 feet but I'm not seeing a spot in SCAL3 to set this up. Any insight would be appreciated.

use the custom mat size and put that to what you need.

Thanks. Do I need to change the pressure or anything?

pressure will depend on what media you are cutting.
vinyl will use a lot less pressure then say, 200gsm card, for example

OK so my understanding is that I use the proper presets for what ever media I am using, input the size of my document and proceed like normal but with no mat.

Thanks a bunch. I was unsure if the absence of the mat would necessitate the need for changes in the cutting settings. I will give it a try. I appreciate your time

In theory, yes, BUT (ain't there always a but? LOL)
what are you cutting without a mat?
vinyl is normally OK as it has its own "mat" in the form it's backing

the mat is there to stop what you cut from falling into the machine and getting in the way of the blade.
if my media did not have a backing I would not try cutting it without a mat unless I altered/designed the file with "tabs" to hold it together until I was ready to pop it out

I am cutting vinyl so hopefully I should be ok. Thanks again for taking the time to clarify.

that should be OK.
i don't cut a lot of vinyl.
keep an eye on the vinyl and watch for it drifting off to one side.
you can minimise this by pulling the vinyl off the roll and letting it pile up so there is little to no "pull" on the vinyl.
