Not printing immediately - taking 15 - 20 minutes to start

Post by CreepyMonkey »

I recently had my PC rolled back from Windows 10 to Windows 8.1 as the new updates made too many changes and caused too many issues.
After everything was reinstalled, I found that SCAL would not print to my US cutter right away. It used to start cutting within seconds, now it takes anywhere form 15-20 minutes for slightly larger files. This is causing some major issues for me.
I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling everything, upgraded from SCAL 3 Pro to SCAL 5 Pro, uninstalled and reinstalled again, checked every setting and they all look good.
All other printers on my computer run fine. Once the files start cutting it all seems to run normal, it just takes SO long to start.

Recap - I am running two MK2 US Cutters, on SCAL 5 Pro, with Windows 8.1.
Can anyone help me to solve this issue? I have spoken with US Cutter Support, they say its a SCAL issue. I have tried emailing and its taking a long time to go back and forth and I am getting answers to my questions that are a bit off base and don't help at all.

Two things: (1) Did you reinstall the driver for your cutter from whatever web site currently provides that driver?

(2) If you add just a single small simple shape to a new file and you send it to cut, does it still take 15 to 20 minutes?

Also... I assume you mean "cutting" and not "printing?"

The first time around I installed from a downloaded driver from US Cutter. I installed the driver that came with SCAL the second time. Both had the same effect.

If I use just a simple shape such as a square it can still take up to a minute or so to start.

Yes, I am cutting as opposed to printing.

In my 12 plus years supporting cutters, I've not read about this happening with any cutters or any cutting software. The only "similar" thing would be the delay experienced when cutting using a Bluetooth or a Wi-Fi connection but then it is only a matter of a few seconds versus 15 - 20. Based on when it started, it appears it does have something to do with the rollback from 10 to 8.1. I agree that 10 is a real pain with its updates.

Anyhow, maybe someone will read this and know of a solution but your best bet is to continue working with Craft Edge directly or returning to Windows 10. Oh... if you had a KNK cutter connected via USB, I would be suggesting forcing the COM port to a different number in case there's something conflicting with that Com Port assignment. Does your cutter shows up under Ports in Windows Device Manager?

It seems this has stumped the best of the best all over.
Windows 10 will not allow me to run my Roland BN 20, it uninstalls the driver about ten minutes after finishing getting it in there.... it also locked me out of installing the drivers for the US Cutters, so rolling back up to 10 is not even an option.
These cutters worked great on this system when I bought the computer and it was running 8.1, before it ever updated and rolled up. If it worked once it should work again... just need to figure out the why....

The US Cutters are listed in the Device Manager under Printers, not Ports. I did try having them installed with the Com Port at one point but we were not successful in getting the computer and cutter to see each other. I do have a new computer guy helping me, maybe he can be successful where the last guy was not.

Why can't US Cutters and Mac Computers get along? this would solve all my problems. lol.

Good luck! I think getting a computer guy involved is a good idea.

I suggest you to reinstall the driver, it might help but even though if doesn't work you can move back to windows 10 back. You can also go through https://www.errorcodeexpert.com/how-to- ... code-e-01/ and find solution to your many other issues, as I was also facing issues in my Epson Printer Error Code E-05 but got it resolved.

The only method to fix the issue is restarting the Print Spooler services.

Let me tell you, the print spooler is a small application that manages the paper printing jobs to the printer.

If you try restarting the print spooler then you can fix the error.

To restart the print spooler,

1. Type Windows key+R.

2. Accordingly, type services.msc and press the Enter button.

3. Eventually, the services window will open before you.

4. Navigate the Print Spooler services.

5. Right-click on the Print Spooler services and click Restart.
