Text on Path alignment

I notice that when typing text on a path, particularly an arc, that the left vertical edge of each letter is aligned with the focus of the arc. This makes letters like a capital H or R or M kick up noticeably on the right edge. It would be nice if the letters alignment with the focus of the arc were related to the center-line of that letter.
