CUTTING ON VINYL

When I am cutting on vinyl (that will stay applied to the board) it is cutting it in pieces.
i.e. when cutting a "k" it is cutting tiny pieces inside the cut instead of one connecting piece.
Could someone let me know if I have a setting wrong?
