Advice on which machine to get

Post by Collier79 »

So I have had my Cricut Expression for about 4 years and have used SCAL/SCAL2 since I got my Cricut. I absolutely love SCAL! I have recently found out that SCAL does not support Cricut anymore. I am still able to use it now, but I am considering selling my Cricut and getting a new machine that is supported by SCAL. I hate the thought of being tied down to what's on cartridges and the cost of buying them. I have never bought a cartridge, I only have the one's that came with my machine and have rarely used them. I have seen so many mixed reviews on all of the machines and I thought who better to ask than other people who use SCAL/SCAL2. I use my Cricut mostly for vinyl and I cut anything from fonts to intricate designs. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! TIA!

I have a Black Cat Lynx and I really love it. It really depends on what you want to do. If you are only going to cut paper and vinyl then you don't need a machine with all of the horsepower of the Black Cat's and some of the others out there. If it is for a business I strongly suggest that you look at the workhorses out there. If you want to know more about the Black Cat (now the SilverBullet) You can check it out here http://forum.silverbulletcutters.com/. It also works well with SCAL and you can ask any questions you want on the forum.

I would advise you to get a silver bullet 24" I know it sounds outrageous and it's pricey, but it opens a door for crazy cutting and huge sizes. I personally never thought I would use a 15" cutting areas. Now, I know better and regret not getting the 24". I love the BC/silver bullet because it actually cuts the area it advertises (cricut cuts 11.5 x 11.5; my BC cuts 15" x 12 o4 24). You will be able to cut decorations in big sizes. I made a haunted house http://svgcuts.com/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=1 for my son's school and it was so nice! they office staff put it in the counter and it looked amazing. Additionally, you can make table tops and slice form cuts that will stand up.

I cannot tell you how wonderful experience I have had with my machine. In addition, the people at http://thatsscrapinc.com/ and it sister across the pond, http://www.thymegraphics.co.uk/, are fantastic and offer one on one help when you get your machine (1 hour, i think), and tutorials. The tutorials are in video and picture format.

In short, big is better LOL

Thanks! I would love to be able to get a machine like that, but I'll probably have to save up for years to get that one! lol

they don't come up very often but now and then people upgrade to a bigger machine and sell the smaller one
it's worth asking on the forums ans/or contacting the two stores (more so the usa if that is your country) and asking if any are available (if you want a certain size then mention that too)
