SCAL 5 pro gives up and cuts a line across the whole design

Post by solisis »

I'm using a laser point 2. Just upgraded to catalina on Mac os like an idiot and of course everything under the sun broke including SCAL 3 which worked absolutely fine. Not on Catalina though. SCAL 3 does not support it.

So after paying to upgrade to SCAL 5 I now find any designs over even slightly complex, like requiring more than a minute to cut at about 600ms will just give up and chop right down the vinyl. First time this happened it ruined a brand new 30 METER roll of vinyl. Thanks guys! Since then I pre cut the approximate shape of the vinyl which is a pain and long term not a solution at all. But for now, we don't want to lose another roll.

I have watched this thing in action. Sometimes it is accompanied by a grinding sound. Sometimes not. But it ALWAYS fails.

Has never happened once with SCAL 3. This is very clearly a software issue. I have 2 laser point 2 machines. Both will fail the same way.

Anyone else have this issue with this particular machine? Or perhaps this is a common thing with SCAL 5 at the moment? I am on the latest version.

I voluntarily provide SCAL support here and on a number of different SCAL FB groups and I've not heard of this particular issue occurring so it's most likely tied to your particular brand/model of cutter versus others. One thing I would recommend first is installing the latest Mac driver for your particular cutter. Since Catalina was introduced some cutters have needed to update their driver in order for it to correctly communicate. You might check your manufacturer's web site to see if a new driver is available.

If that's not the issue, then I recommend contacting your Laser Point 2 dealer and find out if others have reported issues cutting from SCAL 5 in Catalina.

If they cannot provide you any insight, then submitting a support ticket to SCAL would be the next step. Here's the link to use: http://craftedge.com/support/support_form.php

Good luck! And if you find a solution, please do post back so that others can benefit from your fix. Thanks!

Hi, Thanks for the response.
I downloaded the driver from here:
http://www.uscuttersupport.com/laserpoi ... setup.html

They don't have a very sophisticated list so who knows if this is current, modern or whatever. But I ran it, and the complex print I was on didn't mess up that time but admittedly I was also messing with other settings so I am not positive the driver helped or if some other setting did it.

I'll keep going and if it goes long enough without running rogue again I will report back with something more conclusive.

Thanks
