Have to re-do all my designs I import to Scan'n'cut

Post by Pico.hq »

Hello there,

As a relative newbie I've now had it with either Brother's Scan'n'cut software OR with SCAL5 OR with myself ;)

I have been practicing for almost a year and literally every design I made with SCAL5 and sent (.fcm) to CanvasWorkspace (CW), I had to re-do in CW because not one single plane was closed for cutting. So I wasn't able to send anything to the SNC. Is this a problem that more people (have) experience(d) or did I miss something / do something wrong? For instance: the biggest problem was the impossibility of cutting an embedded plane in a bigger plane. I could cutout a big circle, but I couldn't cut the smaller circle inside, so the letter "O" was not possible.....

Now finally I'm looking for your help, because I'm not smart enough to solve it myself
Does someone recognise the problem and does she or he found a workaround?
Please let me know, because I love designing, cutting and making stuff to make people happy, but now it takes way to much of my time :(.
I would love to hear from you!

Greetings,
Pico

I'm happy to help you with this.

First of all, please watch this video I made related to this topic:

https://drive.google.com/file/d/1VO2OS_ ... sp=sharing

Secondly, when you have outer and inner shapes, to convert them into a single shape, select both and apply Object>Merge. That essentially makes the inner shape a "hole" inside the outer shape. Now with something like text, that should already be the case, unless you apply Object>Break Apart which is the opposite of Object>Merge.

Also, I wrote a detailed SCAL user manual... here's the link: https://www.iloveknk.com/0um/SCAL5/SCAL ... Manual.pdf

If you still have issues, I'm happy to help but I'll need to see the SCUT file you've created in SCAL so that I know EXACTLY what you're exporting. But I'll get it figured out for you. Post back after you've tried these things out.

Miss MacCauley,

Thank you for your help, I'm impressed with your extended manual and I hope to learn a lot from it.
I'll seek the solution to my problem and will let you know if it was solved or not. When not, I will make you some screenshots to explain my problem a bit further!

Greetings,
Pico
