I have upgraded to v 5 and have a question. When I have a design open and would like to reposition it, I click on that test and it is in white making it hard to see where to place my text. Hope that makes sense. Can anyone tell me if I can change the color so that when I rearrange text or design I can see where I am placing it?

THank you in advance
Karen

You can change any text or vector shape to whatever color you need. First, make sure it's selected and then on the Fill & Stroke Panel on the right, change the Fill color by clicking on the little color box to the right of wherer "Color" is selected and pick something besides white. You can do the same with Stroke, as well. You might want to download my SCAL5 user manual so that you can look these kinds of things and not have to wait until someone comes online to answer. I guess I am not doing it right or I didn't explain it well. Lets say the text I am wanting to reposition is gray but when I click on it to drag and place, it turns white making it hard to tell on the mat where I am placing it. Do you still using the same method to change? I guess this is a big change for me since I was using scal 2 and now using 5. Thanks again

On the Document Panel, see if you have the option called Show Outlines Only checked. If so, then uncheck it. If you still don't see the Fill color for your text, then please select the text and post a screenshot of the Fill & Stroke Panel settings.

So, everything is colored now. Wasn't that the issue? It was all white before? Do you have a different issue? If the problem is not being able to see the interior parts of your letters, then do a marquee-select (drag your mouse so that you select the entire word) and then apply Object>Merge. Here's a quick video for you: https://vimeo.com/314062920

The issue is that although the text is correct at the moment, when I want to reposition it somewhere else on my mat, I will box the whole word and then when I click on it to be moved if turns a white outline and I can't tell where I am placing it on my mat. I tried the marquee thing and it still was white when I click and try to drag. In my scal 2, I could click on a word or design and it would show the whole text in color and I could see exactly where I am placing it on my mat. I guess v 5 is different. Thanks for trying to help. I have sent an attachment showing what I mean. It is hard to see but the white outlines is what I get when I try to reposition my word. It turns into a white outline.

I can see that in your screenshot. VERY odd because I don't see that at all in my SCAL5. My Fill color stays in place as I move my shapes. I guess one thing you can do is change the color of the mat. You could make it a pale yellow for example (or even darker) and be able to see your shape as you move it. That's an option on the Document Panel now. Also, if you don't mind, will you save your file using File>Save to create a .SCUT5 version and email it to me or post it here so that I can test your file in my SCAL5? Maybe there's something in its properties that is causing this to happen. My email is smccauley45@cox.net.
