I have a small ‘sign’ business and exclusively use SCAL. I currently have a Silhouette Cameo.I love love love it - have used it for years. I use it to ‘cut’ out lettering but only use the ‘stencil’ part for my signs. As you know, it has a size (width) limitation of 12”. I don’t think, financially, we can move to the next step but curious if you knew what would be the next step up for a machine to ‘cut’ - for bigger sizes. For cutting, I am currently using contact paper (from Walmart) that is 18 wide. It’s PERFECT for my needs because I just do a ‘kiss cut’ and peel off and then use the stencil part for my signs - plus it’s super cheap and I can buy it locally and don’t have to worry about online costs etc. I just think I might need to look into the next step up for machines to ‘cut’. I’m wanting to make larger signs AND just have a machine that cuts quicker/more efficient etc…

I saw several options online but not sure which is best for my needs:

Vinyl Systems Specialist 28" Cutter Plotter - Stepper Motor
Zing Orbit 15in

or something else....

Thank you in advance, Cindi

Hi Cindi,

Right off the bat, I admit that I'm biased because I write the user manuals and perform product testing for KNK USA, so I would recommend the Zing Orbit in a heartbeat. I've worked with KNK cutters since their release in 1996 and I provide contract support for the company at numerous public sites: forums, Yahoo groups and Facebook groups. Not only does KNK USA care about their customers being successful but they have always been committed to providing the latest in cutting technology to both crafters and small business owners: e.g. higher force, faster cutting, and the most accurate PNC capabilities.

The Zing Orbit cuts almost 16 inches in width and easily feeds 18 inch wide materials. It is fully compatible with the latest versions of SCAL... in fact SCAL is the recommended software for the ZO.

I'm sure you have more questions so please post them here OR you can email me privately at
